A Helping Hand
The Isabella Community Soup Kitchen resides on Adams Street in Mount Pleasant, Mich. It has been around for about 20 years and serves to alleviate hunger for those in need. The soup kitchen is not only available for the community, but also for students in need from Central Michigan University. Breakfast and lunch are the main meals provided seven days a week.
Agnes Heyl is a local volunteer who comes to volunteer for the soup kitchen whenever she is available. She has been helping out for about six years. Heyl helps serve food, clean the kitchen, cook, and more. Her desire and willingness to help out her community is remarkable. She loves volunteering so much that she even helps out at the Commission On Aging and the Animal Shelter in addition, which are also in Mount Pleasant. She says that she loves helping the people because it makes them happy, and when the people are happy, she is happy.
Throughout her many years volunteering, Heyl has become loved and respected by the patrons who come to the soup kitchen, as well as the staff and volunteers. She is always laughing and smiling, stopping to talk to the community and keep them company as they sit and enjoy their meals. Her kind spirit and sense of humor is infectious and she brings joy to all at the soup kitchen. She truly is a gem, always putting others before herself.
